![]() You'll take different feats and allocate points a little differently depending on your choice.I'm going melee for the build. Regardless of the race you choose, you need to decide if you are going melee or ranged. out of all the ritual lists it will probably give you the most utility.Īnd if all else fails, your still a Wizard and can totally Fireball whatever gets in your way to death. The bard ritual list is chock full of useful information gathering and tracking spells that don't require a stat check, so its useful even with a charisma dump. Then you get the ability to change your illusions on the fly, a once per short rest perfect dodge to save your hide with and at 14th the ability to just have something in your illusions actually exist for a while. Illusionist grants you access to a free boosted Minor Illusion cantrip which in and of itself is probably worth the investment in the subclass in my opinion. Wizard gets access to most of Corvo's abilities as spells, like off the top of my head, Invisibility, Silence, Knock, Disguise Self, Darkness, Shadow Blade, Teleportation of various flavors. Illusionist Wizard with Ritual Caster: Bard is probably close to what you're looking for. ![]() You'll take different feats and allocate points a little differently depending on your choice. I prefer optimization/min-maxing but choose a race based on roleplay and backstory (you can't go wrong either way). If Int is dumped, then Wood Elf is the next best choice. The optimal race for an Arcane Trickster Rogue is High Elf for the +2 Dex and +1 Int. It's only really noticeable, though, if the campaign uses proper Perception rules (disadvantage in dim light). In my opinion, and excluding multiclassing into Gloom Stalker Ranger or any Warlock with Devil's Sight, any race with Darkvision makes a superior Rogue (playing a Variant Human, for example, is difficult because of the conflict between being stealthy and moving through the shadows and the need for light). You get Sneak Attack and spellcasting (up to 4th-level spells). ![]() Otherwise, it sounds like an Arcane Trickster Rogue is exactly what you'd want. Arelai's suggestion to make a Bard is a good one.
